Job Two:
Odd Partnership
"Time is slowly ticking away for you my little friend," The assassin whispered from her perch on a building. She was a strange woman by any standards. Her hair was down to her shoulders and was a glossy black. She wore a tight shirt that revealed her midriff, and did very little for her un-endowed figure. Her eye, since she had a patch over one, was a bright aqua color that seemed to scream "insane" to any on looker. She also had wings. They were not usable, of course, since the were stunted and were not even attached to her back, but they were still wings none the less. Also she carried a sword and a very stunning sniper rifle.
She had been watching her prey for over a week now, and had found that he had no normal habits. In fact the only think he did regular was grocery shopping and she did NOT want to kill a man while he was carrying groceries. It was just so wrong some how. The assassin sighed. 'Anghiari what the heck have you gotten yourself into?' She thought to herself as she fiddled with her sniper rifle.
"Mew?" A cat had snuck up on her in the midst of her thinking and silent plotting. Now it wanted her attention, no matter how loud it was. "Mew!" It cried again.
Anghiari looked down. "Scat," She whispered and turned away to stalk Ahura Mazda some more.
The cat would NOT have that. It would get some attention and it would get it NOW. So, deciding this the cat bit the assassin.
Anghiari screamed bloody murder.
Osiris stopped dead in his track.
No! He would not see her in the humiliating moment! That was not how a assassin was supposed to meet their hit! It was supposed to be all dark and dramatic!
While Anghiari was going through her internal rant Osiris was debating on running for his life or taking a peak at what was screaming. It could be a murder and he would NOT want to be involved in that dirty business. Then again it could just be someone in a tad bit of trouble and he could help....
No. That was just a little two much effort for him. He would rather be off stealing something important and getting money for it.
Anghiari was relived that the young man had decided to leave while she was prying off the cat. She would confront him tomorrow. It seemed like the only thing she could do.
***
This was the wrong day to confront him. He was going on a job and she could not shoot him in the middle of stealing a painting, could she? Yes. In fact she had done it before, but this time it was a bit different. She had a score to settle and she wanted it to be perfect.
Then again she could not wait much longer before going up the walls. She would confront him on the roof, that way she could make a clean get away before the alarms went off.
Ahura Mazda's shoes lightly tapped the roof of the building. After so many years of improving ways of life they never bothered to figure out a way of creating proper air vents.
All the better to loot the poor saps at museums.
Little did Ahura Mazda know that someone was watching him from the adjacent building, ready to pounce on him at any moment, and when the stalker did bounce he did not even have time to say "I should have stayed home today."
He did not move as the hand gun was pressed against the back of his neck. If he did move he would probably set off an alarm or two. That would be worse than being shot in the back of the head.
"So, who is out to get me?" Ahura Mazda whispered.
"Only the person who was meant to kill you in the first place."
"Pity how I have no idea who that is."
The unseen killer growled. "I am only the best assassin in the known universe! You should tremble even before I speak my name."
"Well... you don't have trouble with your self esteem."
The gun pushed Ahura's head forward. The assassin hissed her name in a rather annoyed matter, "My name, petty thief, is Anghiari. Now that you know, you can die in peace!"
"Wait! No!" Ahura was not sure how he could squirm his way out of this one, but he knew he could not die now, of all times. "How about we make a deal?"
"With you?" The assassin made an odd noise before saying, "No."
"Oh, please. You realize with my help you could become the greatest human being alive! You could live on some secluded island, and your name would be legendary through out the thieving and assassinating world!" Ahura could only hope that she was a lot more idiotic than he assumed she was.
"Do you know anything about the occupation of assassination? I'm probably not going to live past twenty five, and that's if I'm a good assassin! There is no way you can retire. Have you heard of a retired assassin who never lived their life in fear?"
"There is a first time for everything."
"Valid point, but I do have my reputation to keep."
"And what do I have to do with it?!"
"You were my last hit. I missed. I don't miss."
"But... I don't even know who you are."
"I told you who I was! Do you have the memory of a dog?"
"No... I have a wonderful memory for details I just can't remember names. You know, they said it was a side effect of genetic tampering, but I honestly think my "lack of morals" was caused by that." If Ahura could have smacked himself, he would have. Now that she knew that he was one of the "accursed experiments" she would surely shoot him.
She lowered her gun. "Let's talk about deals after you pull this job or I kill you."
He did not disagree, he just complied.

"So. You brought the greatest assassin into my house. Is there something wrong with you?" Sindiri was slowly turning a bright red.
"It was life or death!"
"I don't really care--"
"She's my new partner if you like it or not."
"Oh! Then I guess you'll just have to pay extra for my Data track services."
"Why are you being difficult?"
"Because you're being stupid!"
"She won't turn around and shoot me!"
"How do you know?"
"Would you please stop talking like I'm not right here?" Anghiari put her hands on her hips. She was hard to ignore in the first place.
They did not apologize, they continued to go on arguing about how bad or good it was to have a well known assassin on their side. Frankly, Anghiari was tempted to shoot them all. She thought better of it, after all, she had made a deal.
"Sindiri, I know this is an odd partnership, but I know it will work. You have to put your faith in me for once." Ahura was almost on his knees begging.
In all her years she had never met such a sweet young man.
"I'll do it."
