Resurrection
Sibylle swallowed hard. What the heck was going on? Something... was talking to them and that something was nowhere in sight.
Even if you look, you won't find me. Unless, Dear Sibylle, you take a look in the cave again.
"This is some kind of joke!" Karen shouted, regretting what he had said shortly after him.
There was notable amusement as the voice spoke. Karekin, you of all people should expect the unexpected, as much as I hate that cliché it fits the current situation rather well.
"Seke," the young man mouthed to Sibylle and Zephyrine. They both stared wide eyed at the young man before snapping back to attention as the voice continued to speak.
Sibylle of the house of Odjrán, you have been given a mission for the elders in your family line, and you are to have several people accompany you. Three to be exact, not including yourself.
"And if I don't want to accept this mission what will happen?" Sibylle said, not entirely sure where to look. She wanted to look and sound like she was in charge, but unfortunately she sounded confused.
The race of merpeople will be wiped out. Not to mention the naga, elves, and a good majority of the other mythical creatures.
"Why would I care about that?"
"Sibylle!" Three shocked voices rang throughout the air and mind.
"Honestly! I don't care about the rest of the world. My self preservation is the most important thing to me. Without my life I can't do much, so give me some credit for not wanting to save the rest of the corrupt, disgusting and polluted world!" Her tail and wings were flaring up as she spoke.
... You need to do this, as do your friends.
Zephyrine blinked, "Oh really? We have to go too?"
Didn't I just say she had to go with three other people?
"Yes, but there are only two of us here," Karen supplied, "And unless Sibylle can pull other "friends" out of thin air I don't think we can go on this mission."
There was a long uneasy pause. The voice, when it spoke again, sounded seven shades of irate. You'll come up with something I'm sure. Now let me tell you want this mission is all right.
The three nodded.
You simply have to find the remaining members of the so called 'extinct' merpeople and secure an area for them. Simple and clean, and you shouldn't get in trouble. After that more will be revealed to you by the chosen people.
"Why exactly should I listen to a dead person?"
Because this dead person will give the town a lovely plague if you don't accept this mission.
There was a long silence.
"Fine. We'll do it."

Sibylle brooded. Quietly, just in case the spirit was still around. How did it honestly expect her to do anything without being able to walk on land, or travel in any form of transportation? All she could use was her fins, and that would slow down her 'friends'. How could someone she had just met be classified as a friend?
How could four people--three at the moment--resurrect an entire race? After that she would probably have to help find the remaining pure bread naga.
Was it that hard to face the fact that humans would end up killing off everything, even their own kind? She held nothing against people like Karen, who were trying to live their lives, but the rest of them who desired power ruined it.

So Seke had been the one to give the plague to the villagers. Karen bit his lip to hold back the tears. He never had expected his mentor to do that to someone Karen loved. Or was it all an accident and Seke was just lying? No, that was silly, Seke could not lie.
Why had this happened to Karen? Of all the people in the world, why him? He was no different than anyone in this village. The only thing he could do that other could not was magic. It was useful, yes, but it could hardly save any race from total annihilation, and it could hardly resurrect the dead. Magic was not a miracle incarnate no matter what people claimed it could do.
Now he was stuck traveling with people he barely knew. They were nice, he would give the that, but they were almost complete strangers, and he would slow them down, not being able to see and all.

Zephyrine was not to keen on the idea of traveling with a mermaid and a human. She could deal with Sibylle, she had know her for a very long time, but Karen was a different story.
It was also the month of Hollow's. The time when spirits and other various nasty creatures came out to attack innocent travelers. Zephyrine did not have a problem with that, but she knew how sensitive Sibylle was to the spirits, and how sensitive they were to her. She was like a giant beacon for anything dark and creepy. Today just confirmed it.
If Zephy remembered correctly, there were plenty of horrible accidents related to Sibylle when she was a child. Even when she had first met Zeph she was bothered by constant accidents. The people of Sibylle's clan had called her a monster, a demon, and a freak, not only because of her appearance but because of these accidents.
Zephyrine was not willing to travel with a beacon and a blind man, but she didn't have much of a choice.
Stupid dead people should just stay dead and stop telling her what to do.

"Death should be something inescapable," Karen whispered to himself. He was sitting at the edge of the forest, not to far away from the lake. His contemplations had been going on for an hour or so under the trees and the starry night. He had come to meet with Sibylle, but he had walked out of his house alone and far too early.
Usually it is inescapable, but if it wasn't for a short time, does that mean your brother could come back? Isn't that why you started studying magic? Sibylle 'spoke' softly.
Karen did not respond, he remained blank as he stood up and slowly walked to the waters edge.
... You thought that Seke was your friend didn't you?
"He was my mentor, and yet he practically back stabbed me. Now I'm expected to do what he says, just so no one else meets my brother's fate." Karen once again looked at the stars with his blind eyes.
"Enough with the angst!" Sibylle popped up from the water with a faint splash.
"It is not angst! It's depression!"
"It's so angst," Zephyrine leapt down from a nearby tree. "You cannot call it anything else."
"You know... this is going to be a very long trip," Karen muttered before trying to defend his case.
