Soul Searching

"SWORD WAVE!" A sword came crashing down on the neck of a gigantic mismatched beast. With a crack it fell to the ground and disappeared in a digital.

"That wasn't even worth the effort," Fedora sighed. This place was nice and all, but all the monsters around were becoming a pain. In fact it seemed that there were more monsters running around then the usual. She had looked all around the May Server and she had not found a single person.

Fedora brushed her long red hair out of her face. The digital sun reflected brightly off her orange, red, and silver armor. Despite the fact that it was digital, it still seemed to radiate an eerie sort of heat on the lush green plains of the King's Grove field. With brown eyes she looked up into this digital sun. Why? Why could she not find a single soul on this server?

Then again, she may have become hopeless a bit too quickly. Suddenly, out of the corner of her eye she say a young girl being attacked by a mutated wolf. A very odd stroke of luck for the young lady.

At first glance she appeared to be a wizard. Normally anyone who managed to get that high flaunted their spells like no tomorrow. It was a common rule that if you were a wizard you liked big explosions.

This one must have been out of MP.

Being a knight, Fedora was obligated to help this person if it benefited her or not. This time around there was just a bit more motivation.

"Need some help?" Fedora cried out.

"Please, my staff isn't working and I have no MP."

Fedora nodded. With a simple swing she cut the very demented critter in half.

The wizard bowed, "Thank you!"

"No problem Miss, I--"

"That would be Mister." The wizard put.... his hands on his hips.

"Are you sure you're a man?"

"I think I know my own gender, thank you."

"Well you never know...."

The very girly wizard smacked his forehead with his hand. When looking at him up close he did seem girlish, he even had a rather cute set of cat ears on the top of his head. He had long flowing white hair, that was partially in a pony tail and finally he had bright green eyes. "Look, Thank you for saving me. If there's anything I can do for you I'd be happy to do it."

At this point Fedora was blushing. "S-sorry. I uh... can't access the BBS on this computer and I was wondering if you could tell me if there was any news on Fedora?"

"Friend of hers?"

"You could say that...."

"Well... rumor has it that she," He leaded forward in a very mysterious priest way, "was killed by a suicidal gunman in her school. Her real life friends are also missing so the rumor cannot be confirmed. It's awful really."

Okay... so she was really dead, and yet she was stuck in a video game. "Somehow... I think there's more to it than that," the woman said aloud.

"More to what? The rumors?"

AH! Why was he still there?

"Yes, exactly."

The wizard grinned, "The name's Ushimo, but everyone calls me Ushi-chan. Yours is?"

Dang. He caught on a bit to quickly for Fedora's liking. "Just call me Lita." She knew he would catch on, but it was worth a shot.

"Right. If that's what you want me to call you so be it." Ushi-chan grinned once again. "I'm surprised to see you on this server, no one even  came here for the Halloween special last week."

"The party at the cathedral? I would have loved to go to that! I--" The knight's little voice gave her a mental smack. 'Oh, yeah, how do you explain to him that you're dead?'

"Yeah... I missed it too you know. I haven't the slightest idea why I missed it anymore." The wizard seemed to be talking to himself more than Fedora.

"That's kind of strange, but does that  really matter now. Why is this server empty anyway?"

"You really can't get to the BBS can you? I thought that you were kidding."

Now would be a good time to depart. "I hate to leave so suddenly but I have to meet some friends... you know how things are." With a nervous grin she sped off in the opposite direction.

Fedora had forgotten the first rule of being a knight in an RPG. NEVER under any circumstances turn your back on an angry spell caster, especially a wizard.

"Blitz Freeze!"

Before the young knight knew it her feet were incased in thick biting ice. Stupid wizard, he managed to gain enough MP back when she came to the rescue.

Ushi-chan slowly made his way to the fuming Fedora. "Miss Lita, if that's what you want to be called, explain to me why you would fleece the whole cyberworld with your false death?"

Herm. That was an interesting accusation. How could she explain anything with out him thinking that she was insane.

Right. That would be impossible.

"Because it is no lie."

"What?"

"You heard me. I'm dead. I'm dead as I'll ever be."

"Lies!"

"Are all wizards this annoyingly spastic."

"Yes. It's in the hand book," Ushi-chan said as he set a fire ball at the knight's feet. Without warning Fedora fell flat on her face.

"What was THAT for?"

"Hand book."

At least he melted the ice, Fedora. This was not the knight's day... or week... or year for that matter. Sure, she had found a person, but he was a complete and utter nut case.

Or better described as a wizard.

"Okay. What do you intend to do now that you've told me that you're dead? Act like it never happened?" Ushi-chan said as he quietly sat down and folded his legs.

'Oh please tell me he isn't thinking what I think he's thinking.' Fedora thought, but said, "I'm not entirely sure. You won't go around the net telling people since... they'd think that you're nuts."

"They already think I'm nuts."

'No surprise there.'

"Party?" Ushi-chan said, he did not want to have a party with Fedora. Sure, he respected the greatest RPG player in history but she just gave off a creepy vibe that sent shivers up and down his real live body as well as his cyber body. That took some serious talent. "Though I prefer to work alone."

"When did Wizards work alone?"

"When did Knight's get huge egos?"

"All right, enough of this," Fedora said with a huff. "I'm off to kill something, come if you want."

She gave up and walked off. Every once in a while she grew tired of first impressions, this was one of those whiles. If he wanted to hang around he could. Fedora was tired of searching, let someone find her.
