The Doll Maker's Story
It was a small town, nothing all that special. It had little wooden and brick houses of various colors. The close nit community enjoyed conversing, gossiping, and being together. They were proud of the famous man in their town. A doll maker of the highest order of his trade. People would come from far and wide to order dolls from him. Everything was perfect, everyone was enamored by the doll maker.
Then, like expected, tragedy struck. The doll maker's sister, the only other family member of his that was still in the world of the living, fell gravely ill. He wanted to help his sister when the doctors all failed, but he was only a doll maker, what could he do to save her life.
Then he had an crazy idea. He knew it was dangerous, crazy and off the wall, but his sister was slowly dying. He created a life sized doll, one that looked exactly like his sister in size and shape. Even to the touch, the doll almost felt alive. He had found a book of the Ancients, a race long forgotten by the planet, which told him of a process of transferring a person's soul to another object or person. It was a dangerous process, but it was his last option.
He came to his sister and told her the plan, she agreed to it after a while, even if she said she was more than willing to meet their parents again. The doll maker did his best with the spell and he had thought he was successful, the doll had managed to move on its own, it talked like his sister but, the doll collapsed to the floor, back to its inanimate state, and his sister was dead. He had no one left, absolutely no one left in his family. He was all alone.
He went back to his house, and his workshop, and he sealed himself inside for months. Nothing, not even the pretty girls from the village lead him out of the voluntary lock down. He experimented with stray animals, artificial souls, and various other things to perfect the transfer. Slowly he was driving himself closer and closer to insanity, and slowly he realized he had to leave his town if he wished to further his experiments.
He left one day, when everyone was asleep, and no one noticed the disappearance of the amazing doll maker. The day he left that town, was the day his sanity broke, the day he had done something to himself of unspeakable proportions. He hardly realized that he was scarcely human anymore, he never bothered to read the full spell that he had originally cast from the book of the ancients. Everything came at a price, no matter how horribly that was, and his price was humanity.
His inquisitive nature brought him to various places to perform his experiments. The rich wanted immortality, and unbreakable body, but those people never worked correctly. He was frustrated, he wanted his spells to work, he wanted someone to become a doll. Then he realized how selfish that sounded, how horrible it would be if someone greedy got an unbreakable un aging body, so he went to the sick.
It worked. He had finally created a living doll... but that was hardly the end.
